UC Berkeley
Founded in 1868, UC Berkeley is ranked #1 for public universities by U.S. News and World Report. Boasting 51 Nobel Laureates (faculty and alumni), UC Berkeley has contributed to improving the human condition through pioneering efforts in nuclear medicine, insect control, bionic exoskeleton robotic legs, CRISPR gene editing, disability education efforts, and treating global malaria, etc. Its discoveries (earthquake science, cyclotron, biofuels, atomic physics, and open source coding) demonstrate UC Berkeley’s history of creativity and innovative research. Our UC LEADS Program is well positioned in the Cal NERDS umbrella of diversity STEM programs. This rich academic landscape will amplify opportunities and activities for UC LEADS Scholars by focusing on STEM core competencies to enhance their scientific career trajectory, such as faculty mentored research, computational literacy, data science fundamentals, graduate school application training, and business skills.
